The Girl With the Big Blue Eyes

“One hot summer day, very early in the morning, there was born a beautiful baby girl.
Her parents and four older sisters loved her, and she brought much joy to their world.
She had big blue eyes, this girl her parents called Sadie,
And they soon learned she was a very special little lady.”

This delightfully illustrated, rhyming children’s book tells the story of Sadie Isabelle McCrary and her journey with epilepsy. Written and illustrated by Sadie’s older sister Savannah Jane McCrary with a special section by Sadie’s mama, Debbie McCrary, this is a story showing how we’re all loved by God and created in His image.

What people are saying:

“This story clearly conveys the message that God is wise and each of us is made in His image. Being different is okay because we have God to help us overcome our challenges. Written in a light rhyming voice, this non-fictional story brings to life the real struggle of a young girl who is fighting epilepsy… There are at least two valuable lessons in this book. First, that when we see people with disabilities, we shouldn’t mock them; we should be kind and friendly. Second, from Sadie’s Mom’s point of view, trusting God through the hard times and the value of prayer shouldn’t be underestimated. Written for the young and old alike, this story would be appropriate for young children. The pacing is perfect and I look forward to reading more of this author’s future works. This would be a good read aloud for the family.”

The story behind the book:

In 2019, I co-wrote this children’s book with my mother about my younger sister Sadie and her journey with epilepsy.

I found that many people don’t understand what epilepsy is, and I wanted to explain it in a way even young children can understand.

So, I wrote and illustrated this rhyming children’s book that tells Sadie’s story, educates people about epilepsy, and shares the truth every one of us is created in God’s image. My mother wrote a section for the back of the book, sharing more details of Sadie’s journey and giving the special perspective of a mother.
